4 Plucked From Florida Bay After Chopper Crash
Four people were rescued early Sunday morning from the middle of Florida Bay off Marathon after their helicopter went down about 14 miles off the coast. The FAA is investigating the cause of the accident.
8 p.m.: Ike Speeds Toward Cuba
Category 3 Hurricane Ike is headed toward the north coast of Eastern Cuba. The storm has forced a hurricane watch for the Keys, watches and warnings for the Bahamas, Haiti, Cuba, and the Cayman Islands, and has Florida's Governor warning residents not to minimize the danger of the storm. Now, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal is casting a wary eye on Ike as the latest forecasts send it eventually into the Gulf of Mexico in the general direction of New Orleans.
Broward County Offices, Schools Remain Open
Hurricane Ike looks like it will spare South Florida the worst of wet weather. In response, Broward County has back off emergency planning. All government agencies in the county will be open Monday. County schools will also be open. Shelters will not be opened; coastal evacuations will not take place. Still, a few event have been canceled.
Dolphins Late Rally Falls Short As Jets Hang On
Chad Pennington had a chance to beat his former team late in the fourth quarter but was intercepted in the end zone as the New York Jets held off the Miami Dolphins 20-16.
